How do I submit material I have written to Wild Goose Publications for consideration?

If your material fits our profile, please send a synopsis plus two or three sample chapters to: Wild Goose Publications, Fourth Floor, Savoy House, 140 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3DH, Scotland. We receive a large number of submissions each month and therefore, although we will acknowledge receipt of your material, you will only hear further from us if a decision is made to publish your material. Such a decision could take up to approximately four months. If you haven’t heard from us within that period, please assume that we are not able to take your project forward. We are sorry that we are unable to give a more personal response or return your material. Please note: we do not give advice or feedback on writing.

Does Wild Goose Publications publish poetry?

We are not a ‘poetry publisher’, although we do sometimes include poems in books of meditations and reflections and are building up a file of such pieces. If you feel your poems may fit our publishing profile and would like to submit some for consideration, please send a small sample to the above address. If we decide that we would like to include one or more of your pieces in future collections, we will contact you at that time to obtain your specific permission to do so. Please note: we do not give advice or feedback on writing.

If I want to make copies of a prayer, liturgy or order of service from a Wild Goose Publications’ book for use in my own local church, what do I have to do?

We do not charge you for making copies of text to use in non-commercial situations such as church services, providing adequate acknowledgement is made, although we are open to receiving voluntary donations for use of material. However, there is a small charge for photocopying music. If you are a member of the CCL scheme covering use of hymns, you can report the use of any John L. Bell/Wild Goose Resource Group hymns on your CCL returns. See Using Our Material section for more details.

I would like to use one of your prayers in an anthology I am preparing for another publisher. Do I have to ask permission to do this and will I have to pay a fee?

In a commercial situation, where the publication is going to be sold, permission must be sought from Wild Goose Publications and a fee is normally charged. See Using Our Material section for more information.

Outside the Safe Place

by Anne Muir
In 2004, the Iona Community became concerned that many of those who could bear witness to its early days were by then in their 70s or 80s. As a result, they commissioned an oral history project, so that their testimonies would not be lost. This book is based on the recordings of their stories.
