A note from Wild Goose

Another big book of resources, created from some of the downloads we have published over the years, has arrived from the printer this week. A collection of liturgies this time.

It's International Youth Day on August 12th, so we list some of our publications on that subject below.

Remember, if you would like to contribute to our list of short downloads, see our invitation for contributions. And if you feel like an autumn trip to Iona to partake in a week with one of our authors in the relative luxury of the St Columba Hotel (while the Abbey is closed for renovation work), see the Autumn Encounters weeks section. No bunk beds involved!

Wild Goose Big Book of Liturgies

(Book and e-book)

The Iona Community

Liturgies for Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter, Transfiguration, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, All Saints’, St Columba’s Day, Father’s Day; on hunger, economic witness, peacemaking, the environment, pilgrimage, welcome, hospitality and friendship. Includes a blessing liturgy for a marriage or partnership, a wedding/partnership ceremony and resources for a memorial event.

Full communion services and shorts acts of worship; liturgies for small groups and all-age gatherings; worship rooted in church life and the Iona Community’s resident group on Iona, in social justice and pastoral work. So – as always with the Iona Community – worship which is contextual, with a strong justice and peace edge.

Originally published as single digital downloads by Wild Goose, these are now all brought together for the first time in the second of at least two Big Books of resources and liturgies.

Contributors include John Harvey, Nancy Cocks, Tom Gordon, Jan Sutch Pickard, Joy Mead, Chris Polhill, Ian M Fraser, Thom M Shuman, Alison Swinfen, Annie Heppenstall, Norman Shanks and others.

God of the rhinoceros and the midge,
God of the Large Hadron Collider and the iPhone,
help us to sense your presence in and through all things.

God whose grace is sufficient for all our needs,
help us to be people of compassion, justice and peace.

(Norman Shanks, from ‘A liturgy for the Feast of the Transfiguration’)

Youth (PDF download)

Readings, prayers and other liturgical resources

Various contributors

Digital download: A wide-ranging, rich collection of reflective and liturgical material for youth groups, youth workers and anyone concerned with youth issues. Drawn together from various Wild Goose Publications' books.

I will pour out my spirit on all flesh ... your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young shall see visions, says the Book of Joel, but at the beginning of the 21st century we are living in a time when the voices of young people are being ignored by those in power and their future is being limited.

This download includes the voices of young people themselves. The material is realistic, coming from down-to-earth places, but is full of hope and good humour.

An invitation to contribute

We are always looking for new liturgies or collections of prayers, reflections etc. to add to the growing list of downloads in our e-liturgies section.

If you have something that you would like to submit for consideration, we would welcome your input. Your contribution could be for a particular season, such as Advent and Christmas or Lent and Easter, or on a specific subject, such as homelessness, sexuality, poverty, racism, or for a special day of the year, such as Valentine’s Day, Lammastide, Harvest, Remembrance Day, Father’s Day etc.

If you are interested, or if you would like more suggestions for subjects, please email admin@ionabooks.com and use the subject-line ‘E-liturgies’.

Autumn Encounters weeks 2017

Joint venture between the St Columba Hotel, Iona
and the Iona Community

To download brochure

21-28th October
Walking into Winter
Led by Jan Sutch Pickard, Joy Mead, and Ruth Burgess

As the seasons change and the year draws towards its close, what words and images come to the forefront of our minds? How can we make creative use of these - through storytelling, poetry, and writing - to help us shape our journeys into winter? A week of conversation and collaboration with three well loved Wild Goose authors and Iona Community Members.

28 October-4th November
Stillness, Silence, and Song
Led by Alison Adam and Cara Riley

In the changing light and landscapes of autumn on Iona, come and experience an unhurried week of meditation and song on this sacred island. There will be space for stillness and reflection, time to roam, and room for encounter with self and others, Creation and the Creator.

4-11th November
Cycles of Grace: Exploring the Ten Beatitudes
Led by Alastair McIntosh

The Beatitudes set out by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount are the essence, not just of the Christian faith, but of all faiths that are drawn from the wells of love. How can we live well when the world seems graceless? What gifts from the Beatitudes might wait for us to share? Under the expert guidance of activist, author, and poet Alastair McIntosh we will reflect on ten Beatitudes and on how we might complete the cycles of grace they set in motion.
