14 Devotions for Good Friday

Be the first to review this product

Digital download: The Stations of the Cross are a traditional Christian devotion used on Good Friday and serve as a basis for participation in, and meditation on, the Passion of Christ. The events of Jesus’ last human journey – beginning with his trial and ending with his body being placed in the tomb – are sketched out in 14 vignettes, some based on biblical passages and some in legend. Usually the stations are set up in different places around a church or outdoor site and participants move between them, spending time at each in reflection and prayer.

However not everyone necessarily has the time, the mobility or the opportunity to take part in such progressions. With this in mind, poet and liturgist Pat Bennett and visual artist Kerry Davies have produced a series of stations for those who wish to mark Good Friday in some way but whose time commitments or particular circumstances may make it difficult to participate in a traditional Stations of the Cross service. The set is however also suitable for these and suggestions for how to use them in both instances are given.

However they are used – whether in personal meditation, in group reflection, at church, at work, viewed on a home computer or on a mobile device – they offer a way of drawing participants into the Passion narrative, allowing them to accompany Jesus Christ on his journey from Gethsemane to the tomb.
