Liturgies for healing 5
Rosemary Power & the Iona Prayer Circle |
Digital download: A short liturgy in support of someone who is walking the last road of life, created by the Iona Prayer Circle, a worldwide network that prays for people and places in distress. With additional reflections. 12 pages.
This is a time of power
as well as a time of fear.
All clutter falls away;
there are stark truths.
Be as you need to be.
Let your loved ones know
how much you need them,
yet ask them to stand back
when you need silence and rest.
However you understand
your life’s journey to this point,
it is all known, all peace:
you do not need to explain.
Whenever you are called home
you will be truly welcome,
your place assured, your spirit shining.
‘All shall be well, and all shall be well,
and all manner of thing shall be well.’ *
Yvonne Morland, Iona Prayer Circle
* Julian of Norwich

Preparing for Christmas
(Book)
Lisa Bodenheim |
Disturbing Complacency does not advocate a 'cosy' view of Christmas but rather urges people to use this season to address some of the most important issues of our time. To do so the author makes creative use of quotes from other sources, interspersed with her own perspective on the subjects under consideration.
Lisa Bodenheim, a minister of the United Church of Christ and an Associate of the Iona Community, writes: Let us prepare for the birth of Christ by stretching our faith and disturbing our comfort. Let us ruffle our complacency and develop awareness, a courageous spirit and a security that comes from a deep-rooted faith.
- Short, structured readings for each day of Advent
- For group or individual reflection
- Scripture-based
- Uses inclusive language and justice-oriented theology
- Raises faith questions about contemporary issues
- Seeks to foster a mature, vibrant and progressive Christianity

(Book and e-book)
Bonnie B Thurston |
Reflective, prayerful poems about how, on a cosmic and a personal level, darkness gives way to light. The author reminds voyagers that ‘light shines in the darkness’, that darkness is required to perceive light – and that Easter means the light has come, life triumphs, and the promised Holy Spirit will empower us for growth: ‘eastering’ …
‘You are in skilled hands here, so let yourself be carried along, ready to experience delight, or be jarred into discomfort. Above all ponder, weigh, take time. For each poem comes out of the quiet depths of a person who is a fellow pilgrim, illuminating the familiar with her own God-given insight.’
– Esther de Waal
