A note from Wild Goose

First of all, an apology. A couple of people have pointed out that my claim in the last newsletter that Easter is very early next year is far from correct – in fact it is very late. So I’m sorry about that, lest anyone thought I was trying to spread fake news. My only excuse is that time seems to pass so quickly these days that I must have been thinking of this year.

Anyway, we have another new book for you this week, a second Big Book of Liturgies chosen from those we have previously published as downloads. We also have a reminder of a few more Advent and Christmas books that might help in preparations for that season.

Wild Goose Big Book of Liturgies volume 2

(Book & e-book)

The Iona Community

Liturgies and liturgical resources for New Year, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, Advent and Christmas. A liturgy for an ‘ordinary day’, and resources for special days like the UN International Day of Friendship and World AIDS Day.

Full communion services and shorts acts of worship; liturgies for small groups and all-age gatherings; collections of resources that could be used to help shape liturgies, or at special events and gatherings.

Services rooted in church, community, home and school life. So – as always with the Iona Community – worship which is contextual, with a strong justice and peace edge.

Originally published as single digital downloads by Wild Goose, these are now all brought together for the first time in the second Big Book of Liturgies.

Contributors include Jan Sutch Pickard, Nancy Cocks, Tom Gordon, Janet Lees, Joy Mead, Thom M Shuman, and other Iona Community folk.

With each new day
there is a new beginning.

With a fresh start and a new beginning
there is fresh hope.

With fresh hope in our hearts
we come to worship God.

(Nancy Cocks, from ‘The best gift ever: Worshipping with the Magi’)

Daily readings for Advent

(Book & e-book)

Peter Millar & Neil Paynter

Daily readings for Advent from Iona Community members, associates and friends.

Advent is a special time in the Christian year. In our troubled world, which is also a world of extraordinary possibility and creativity, we need such times more than ever. Times to renew our soul so that our lives may express a deeper compassion and a more joy-filled awareness.

Traditionally in the days of Advent there has been an emphasis on the coming of Light – that Light which illumines all our journeys and brings healing to the nations. May these readings enlarge your hope, and bring you to Christmas morning with Christ’s light steadily illumining your path.
