A Harvest Blessing (PDF download)

Song — full score

Philip Fox

Digital download: A blessing song for harvest with words and music by one of the musicians of Iona Abbey. Full score.

Blessed by the gifts of harvest,
the fruits of God's goodness,
may we go out in gladness ...

Philip Fox has been Iona Abbey musician more than a dozen times, filling in for the resident musician when they have been on holiday. Since 1970, he has been a Church of Scotland organist and choirmaster; he is also the founder/conductor of the Lanark & Carluke Choral Union which in 2015 was one of the chosen choirs to sing in New York’s Carnegie Hall, celebrating ‘Martin Luther King day’. On that occasion, he and his choir were also invited by Donald Trump to sing to him at Trump Tower. About the experience, Philip says: ‘We didn’t take any money for this: I just wanted to show him that there are things which go beyond materialism. It was a witness.’ Philip Fox is an associate member of the Iona Community.

Resources for Ordinary Time – The Feast of the Transfiguration to All Hallows’

Ruth Burgess

A collection of resources for the late summer and autumn period of Ordinary Time – prayers, stories, responses, songs, poems, reflections and meditations, written by Iona Community members, associates, friends and others.

Acorns and Archangels offers resources for groups and individuals covering the weeks from the Feast of the Transfiguration to All Hallows’ Eve, including the psalms and the prophets, the Acts of the Apostles and New Testament letters, women’s stories, sections on saints and angels and harvest, a variety of blessings and a play for Hallowe’en.

God of the seasons,
you surround us with beauty and wonder:
you smile in the ripening fruit,
you dance in the tumbling leaves.

Teach us to dance with you,
to act justly
and to share fairly,
to love you in friend and stranger
all the moments of our nights and days.

(Book and e-book)

Alison Phipps & Tawona Sitholé

Poems for times of war and persecution, exploring what it means to resist; to suffer with; to bear witness; to seek companionship; to be part of the agony of a family made in love, and parting, separated by land, sea and paperwork.

Luminous, beautiful and sore. Poetry that is lyrical and tender, wounded and elegiac, probing and incantatory. And above all else life-affirming.
Karine Polwart, Scottish singer-songwriter
