A note from Wild Goose

This week we take the opportunity to remind you of some items from the past: a book reflecting on biblical women, a download for World Water Week (21st - 27th of August), and some Harvest resources.

A Telling Place

Reflections on stories of women in the Bible

(Book and e-book)

Joy Mead

Through poems and reflections Joy Mead imagines the women mentioned in the Bible as central to their own stories, rather than appearing briefly on the margins of a narrative which reflects a world perceived and led by men. Her meditations on these women express her belief that their stories are not just about 'women’s issues', but are relevant to both men and women. They explore an incarnational theology, earthed in creation and the possibility of transformation, and a perspective on society centred on mutuality and relationship.

This is a book not of certainties and answers but of explorations and questions. Just like the interaction at the well of Jesus and the Samaritan woman, or Jacob and Rachel, it is about looking into the puzzling heart of all things and being enriched by the experience.

The birthing of the ordinary
revolution: women’s voices
sound Magnificat
making an enormous YES

on housing estates
and travellers’ sites,
in hostels for the homeless
and cardboard cities;

in community food shops,
credit unions,
soup kitchens
and baby co-ops;

where the rhythm of a song
moves the people’s dreams
like flowers scattered
at the site of a stabbing;

where the handmaid
of the Lord, in her own
shaft of light
stands tall and empowered
breaking each day
in community
the 25p sliced bread
of life.

('Magnificat now' by Joy Mead)
