A liturgy for Father’s Day

David McNeish

Digital download: A liturgy for Father’s Day. Includes two songs, with music (supplied as separate files).

The Bible is an uneasy place to find out about fathers – stories of human failure and frailty abound. Yet Joseph does not abandon Mary when he finds out that she is mysteriously pregnant. Instead he chooses to stay, and raises Jesus as his own son. And Jesus dares to call God ‘Father’. Repeatedly. And describes him as one who is all-loving – and who runs out to embrace us and lead us home. For some, this is an extraordinary revelation of the heart of God. For others, it is an uncomfortable reality that tests their faith. Yet what if we were to lavish love upon our children as God does? What if fathering has a future beyond the bounds of patriarchal oppression?

Pearls of Life bracelet new transspaser

Pearls of Life bracelet

New version

Created by Bishop Martin Lönnebo

A glass and ceramic bead bracelet handmade in India and purchased through a fair trade company.

When Martin Lönnebo introduced the Pearls of Life bracelet in 1995 as an aid to contemplation and prayer, nobody predicted the extent to which it would spread around the world, or how loved and well used it would become. Each of the ‘pearls’ helps us to focus on a particular kind of situation in life.

  • The God Pearl
  • The Pearls of Silence
  • The I Pearl
  • The Baptism Pearl
  • The Desert Pearl
  • The Serenity Pearl
  • The Love Pearls
  • The Mystery Pearls
  • The Night Pearl
  • The Resurrection Pearl

This is the new version of the bracelet, where one of the three – originally white – Mystery Pearls has been replaced by a green pearl. Included is a small multi-language leaflet with a basic explanation of the pearls.

In this time of great spiritual longing as well as unprecedented busyness, stress and difficulty in focusing, the Pearls of Life bracelet provides a practical method to help the mind attain a state of stillness, meditation and prayer. In this way, we are drawn back to what is most important in our lives, to our spiritual centre and an experience of God.

Can be used in conjunction with the new Pearls of Life book.

Pearls of Life book

(New version)

Johan Dalman, Ann Lagerström, Thomas Lerner

This new, hardback version of the book Pearls of Life (published in English by Verbum Sweden) reflects on the meaning of the pearls and suggests how to use them. It relates to the new version of the Pearls of Life bracelet where one of the three – originally white – Mystery Pearls has been replaced by a green pearl.

The book is both an introduction to the Pearls for those who have never encountered them before and a deepening for those who use them already. It also includes an interview with Martin Lönnebo and the stories of four users of the Pearls.

The previous, paperback, Pearls of Life book, relating to the old version of the bracelet is still available here.

St Cuthbert’s Way (new edition)

A pilgrims’ companion

(Book & e-book)

Mary Low

There’s nothing like putting one foot in front of the other, day after day, in all weathers, for getting you in touch with the things that really matter.

St Cuthbert’s Way runs from Melrose in the Scottish Borders to Lindisfarne, Holy Island, off the coast of Northumberland. This book, designed as a Pilgrims’ companion, presents

– Information essential for walking the Way
– A field guide to places of interest along the route
– An introduction to St Cuthbert and his world
– Songs, meditations and stories
– Ideas and resources for a contemporary pilgrimage experience

While other guides major on directions, this one brings the landscape to life through a wealth of stories and personalities, while leaving you free to experience your own pilgrimage for yourself. It will appeal to anyone with an interest in early Celtic and Anglo-Saxon spirituality, the more recent history of the Borderlands and the flora and fauna to look out for along the way.

Into the Foothills of Transformation

(Book & e-book)

Donald Eadie

Shortly after becoming Chairman of the Birmingham District of the Methodist Church, Donald Eadie was told that he had a degenerative disc disease. Following three major spinal operations, he was forced to retire, and to face the letting go of identity and role, feelings of marginalisation and abandonment – living with the death of the old life, and not being able to imagine a new one with meaning and purpose. Into the Foothills of Transformation is a collection of Donald’s reflections and journal writings, and letters, prayers and poems.
