On rogation days, people used to walk in procession round their fields and parishes, asking for God’s blessing on their work, stopping at various ‘stations’ on the way. Although this tradition fell into disuse with the increasing industrialisation of society, some churches – often those in cities – have recently begun experimenting with such liturgies again, seeing them as a way of praying for the whole of creation.
