I Saw a Stranger (CD)

Oran, Pat Livingstone & Donald Wetherick

Twenty songs based on the Carmina Gaedelica

SKU/ISBN: 9781901557817

The twenty original songs on this album are based on the Carmina Gaedelica, the ancient Scottish prayers and blessings collected and translated by Alexander Carmichael at the end of the 19th century which capture the essence of Celtic Christianity.

With titles like ‘The Healers of healers’, ‘The voice of thunder’ and ‘The journey blessing’, the lyrics evoke the old Gaelic spirituality which saw God as manifest in all aspects of life, including the natural environment. (Listen to audio samples – see below.)

The songs are by Pat Livingstone and Donald Wetherick, members of the group Oran, both of whom have held the post of Abbey Musician at Iona Abbey.

Listener reviewReview by Lolly Ockerstrom
Haunting, lyrical, beautiful. A spirit from another world, and listening to it, I hear something profound and genuine. Thank you! (Posted on 11/01/2013)
